Full Moon in Taurus: At the Threshold of Samhain
26 October 2026

There is a particular stillness in late October. Leaves return to the earth, daylight fades, and homes begin to become places of gathering and protection once more. Nature gradually withdraws from the outward energy of summer. What bore fruit has been harvested; what remains on the branches is surrendered to time.
It is during this season that the Full Moon of 26 October takes place, at 04:11 a.m. GMT, at 2°45′ Taurus. The Moon stands opposite the Sun in Scorpio, while Pluto in Aquarius forms an almost exact square to both.
A few days before Halloween and Samhain, the sky symbolically meets the traditions of a season devoted to the harvest, remembrance, and the passage into winter.

The Last Harvest
In Irish tradition, Samhain marked the beginning of winter, with celebrations starting on the evening of 31 October, the eve of 1 November. Agricultural work changed pace, supplies were gathered, and survival in the coming months depended on what had been prepared.
It was also a time associated with the dead and the Otherworld. According to folk belief, souls could return to their family homes. The home became a place of welcome and protection, while food, fire, and gatherings took on particular significance.
This coexistence of nourishment and remembrance, of protecting life and acknowledging death, corresponds symbolically with the Taurus–Scorpio axis. Taurus concerns the earth, the body, food, and everything that allows us to carry on. Scorpio brings us face to face with loss, dependency, and changes beyond our control.
Each year, the Full Moon in Taurus takes place during Scorpio season, against this autumnal landscape in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, Pluto’s close involvement intensifies the confrontation between what we want to preserve and what has already begun to change.

What We Hold On to Feel Safe
The Moon is traditionally exalted in Taurus. It seeks the calm of consistency: a familiar face, a home where we can rest, the feeling that our basic needs are met.
Opposite it, the Sun in Scorpio turns our attention to the terms of that security. Who pays the price? How much do we share, and how much are we afraid of losing? Can we rely on someone without feeling that we are giving them the right to decide for us?
With Pluto at the focal point of the T-square, these questions may carry greater weight. The desire for stability can become attachment. The need for closeness may express itself as jealousy. The fear of losing a relationship can lead to silence, pressure, or attempts at control.
In Aquarius, Pluto extends this theme to the groups, communities, and systems in which we participate. The need to belong may conflict with our personal autonomy. We may discover that a circle of friends, a partnership, or a social role demands more and more of us as the price of remaining part of it.
For the fixed signs, the difficulty often lies in yielding. Even when a situation hurts, changing it can seem more threatening than allowing it to continue.

Venus, the ruler of this Full Moon, is retrograde in the final degree of Libra. Having recently met the Sun, she returns to matters of relationships, agreements, money, and self-worth.
In her own sign, she has the capacity to seek fairness and mutual understanding. Her retrograde motion, however, calls for reassessment. A balance maintained through constant concessions may now prove exhausting. A relationship built on attraction may need clearer terms.
At the same time, her opposition to retrograde Chiron in the final degrees of Aries touches on the relationship between “I” and “we”. How much room is there for our own needs? Can we disagree without fearing that we will lose love or acceptance?
The Moon has already passed over Chiron before entering Taurus. Symbolically, it carries into the Full Moon the memory of a sensitivity stirred earlier. Something small in the present may awaken an older experience of rejection or abandonment. It is worth acknowledging both, so that we do not ask a conversation today to resolve our entire past.
Venus’s harmonious connections with the Lunar Nodes,a trine to the North Node in Aquarius and a sextile to the South Node in Leo, offer a more supportive opening. We can reconsider how we relate to others, listen to a different point of view, and choose relationships with greater reciprocity.

The Fire of Self-Assertion
Mars in Leo is separating from a trine to retrograde Saturn in Aries and moving towards Jupiter. Their conjunction is still relatively wide, but the tendency is developing: greater boldness, creativity, and a need to take up space.
The preceding trine to Saturn reminds us of the value of organised effort. The approach to Jupiter raises expectations. We may want to move a plan forward or stand up for what we want with greater confidence.
Care is needed, however, when self-assertion becomes entangled with pride. The need to prove our worth may lead us into more promises, expenses, or confrontations than we can manage.
Retrograde Mercury in Scorpio, forming squares to Mars and Jupiter, makes words particularly charged. We may return to an old disagreement, search for hidden motives, or mistake a suspicion for certainty. The same configuration can support research and revision, provided we are willing to examine our own conclusions too.
A Body Asking for Quiet
Among the ten main astrological bodies, the Moon is the only one in an Earth sign. The entire need for practical support is concentrated here.
Amid intense feelings, thoughts, and desires, we may need more sleep, regular meals, less noise, and time at home. Caring for the body helps us distinguish a genuine need from a reaction in the moment.
Uranus in Gemini is the only planet in a mutable sign. Flexibility requires conscious effort: listening before deciding, considering an alternative, and accepting that we may not yet know the whole story.
Its long-term trine to Pluto and sextile to Neptune form the broader backdrop to this period. Amid changes unfolding slowly, a new piece of information or a different way of thinking may help us adapt.
Among the chart’s subtler indications, the Moon’s parallel with Aldebaran adds the traditional theme of courage and integrity: how we pursue something without compromising our principles. Pluto’s out-of-bounds declination, while the planet is moving direct, symbolically reinforces the theme of exceeding limits in the expression of power, within approaches that use this technique. Both remain supplementary indications within the Full Moon’s overall picture.

At the Threshold
This season also lends itself to a return to the image of Hekate. I wrote an article around the Halloween Full Moon of 2020, which I called “Hekate’s Full Moon”. As a poetic presence at thresholds and crossroads, she can accompany the moment before a choice: when we know what we are leaving behind but have not yet become familiar with the road opening ahead.
This connection is symbolic and contemporary. The Greek traditions of Hekate and the Irish traditions of Samhain each have their own distinct history. Here, they meet through images of remembrance, protection of the home, and transition.
If we wish to give this seasonal pause a personal form, we can prepare a dish that reminds us of someone we love, care for our home, or find a little time for what we have not yet had the chance to grieve. Memory needs room, as does the life that continues.
The way this T-square is formed by the planets and celestial bodies, with Pluto effectively cutting across the Full Moon’s energy, reminded me of a crossroads. And, like Pluto, Hekate holds the keys to the Underworld firmly in her keeping.
There is an Underworld within each of us: memories of pain, losses, or our own darkness. The Full Moon always casts light, and under this Full Moon, the darkness is illuminated.
Take a look… where does it still hurt? Where do you hold on obsessively? Are you allowing something to leave, or is attachment determining your choices?
Around the Full Moon, we may feel more vulnerable to uncertainty and less willing to yield. Let us be mindful of ultimatums, tests of love, and attempts to force an answer through pressure.
Before sending an emotionally charged message, it is worth asking ourselves what, specifically, we want from the other person. Before taking on a commitment, let us consider our time, money, and capacity. If someone from the past returns, we can observe whether the circumstances that once troubled us have changed too.
We need to pay attention to consistent actions, clear terms, and reciprocity. A boundary becomes more useful when we can express it and uphold it. A conversation moves forward when we leave room for an answer.
Just as people once examined their supplies before winter, we too can look at what we have available for the months ahead: which relationships support us, which responsibilities we can manage, and what needs care. Some things can be repaired. Others need a farewell, with the time and dignity they deserve.

This Full Moon particularly concerns the fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius—especially those with planets, the Ascendant, or Midheaven between approximately 0° and 5° of these signs.
The aspects involving Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter also activate planets and significant points near 13° and 25° of the fixed signs, with an emphasis on communication, self-assertion, and managing expectations.
The cardinal signs-Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn-are affected secondarily, particularly those born towards the end of these signs, or those with planets and points in their final degrees. Retrograde Venus and her opposition to Chiron bring matters of relationships and self-worth back into focus, while her harmonious aspects to the Nodes offer room for mutual understanding and more supportive choices.
Wishing you an autumn filled with blessings,
