Autumn 2026: History of Magic - Spiritual Phenomena in the Victorian Era- Samhain - Collectables

There is something about autumn that has always felt like an invitation to look beyond the visible.

The months of Libra and Scorpio, when nature turns crimson, leaves fall like silent mysteries, and the soul learns once more the lesson of loss. The Sun descends along the ecliptic; its strength wanes, the light grows scarce, and the world begins to descent into dusk.

Civilisations did not see in this fading merely an ending, but a sacred threshold. In Greece, Persephone leaves the world of the living and descends into Hades, carrying with her the mystery of the eternal cycle: death and rebirth, darkness and the promise of another spring. In the Dionysian mysteries, passion and ecstasy lead to a state of communion in which the boundaries between life and death dissolve.

In the North, the Celtic peoples observed Samhain, the night when the veil between worlds grows thin and the souls of the dead may walk for a while beside the living. The autumnal descent becomes a season for remembering the ancestors, for making peace with mortality, but also for recognising the hidden fertility that lies dormant within the darkness.

Libra brings the togetherness- the delicate balance before the crossing, the call towards companionship, because sometimes it is only through the eyes of another that we can endure the fall.

Then Scorpio takes us into the depths: love and passion, surrender as both the death of the ego and an initiation into the mystery of the Other.

Autumn, a season of duality, weaves within us the truth of the cycle: whatever withers is transformed; whatever dies is born again. These are the months of union and separation, of love that wounds yet saves, of death that frightens yet liberates.

Nature turned crimson- for She, too, had fallen in love with summer...and so She fell...

It felt, therefore, like the perfect season to open the doors of Imaginarium once again. But this edition also marks a new chapter for Imaginarium.

Rather than simply creating something to be read and left behind, I wanted each edition to feel like an object to keep: a small cabinet of curiosities to return to whenever the season calls you back. Alongside the articles and artwork, you will therefore find a collection of printable pieces created to accompany this issue and gradually form part of the wider Imaginarium Archives.

So make yourself something warm, find a quiet corner, and step inside.
